East Central College Baseball made a return to campus for the first time in 21 years. A good crowd was on hand to witness the ceremonial first pitch from ECC Alumnus, Mr. John Moroney, title sponsor of the baseball field renovation and owner of 31 midwest Taco Bell franchises. The other first pitch came from ECC President Dr. Jon Bauer. Brief words were spoken to get kickoff the home opener acknowledging the ECC Board and ECC Foundation with more events planned throughout the season to mark baseball’s return to East Central College. ECC’s first baseball coach Tom Dill along with former baseball alumni were on hand to witness the festivities.
As the game started, the Falcons found themselves trailing the Milwaukee Tech Stormers early due to errors. The Falcons clawed their way back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game in the 5th inning 3-3. Alfred Ulloa gained better command of his pitches after the first two innings and kept the Stormers off balance. A big hit by Nathan Turner had ECC tied, but the Falcons relief pitching staff came in late and allowed two runs to trail 5-3. A rally started in the bottom of the 6th inning had ECC scoring another run and threatening to tack on more, but the Falcons fell short 5-4 despite outhitting Milwaukee Tech.
The second game of the double header didn’t fair so well from a pitching perspective as the Falcons were outhit. ECC walked a few lead off batters in the early innings and struggled at the plate to fall 8-3 in the second game of the double header.
