The Falcons (23-15-1) ended the Region 16 DII Tournament with a valiant effort but couldn’t quite seal the deal against the St. Louis Community College Archers losing 3-2. ECC defeated Mineral Area 16-10 in the semifinal round of the tournament after falling 4-2 the day before to STLCC.
ECC had some of their bat magic working as Danielle Kimminau hit two out of the park against Mineral Area in the high scoring contest. Maddie Greco launched her 12th of the season and the hits just kept coming against the Cardinals. Eva Dawson, Addie Konkel and Hailey Schulte all pitched for the Falcons.
The region final was tightly contested as a few plays were all that separated ECC from STLCC. A lead off bunt opened the scoring in a three-run 5th inning for STLCC. The Falcons weren’t rattled as they came back with two solo home runs by Lily Prichard and Maddie Greco to make the game a 3-2 contest. Greco tied the single season home run record with 13 after her launch over the left center field fence. Hailey Schulte pitched well for the Falcons, but the team couldn’t manage a comeback and finished as runner-up in the region tournament.
