East Central Soccer (7-2) started out slowly at home against Crowder College, but prevailed with a 1-0 win at the final whistle. The Falcons were off to a sluggish start and played with no sense of offensive urgency in the first half as the Roughriders had more possession. The second half changed and the Falcons started to generate scoring opportunities as the team picked up the pace. Freshman, Leonard Sowa hit a 35-yard free kick over the Crowder goalkeeper’s had and hit the post. As the ball ricocheted off the post, Arman Kovac reacted as quickly as possible and sent the rebounding ball over the goal. Kovac came back with another one touch shot in the area and made the most of the second chance with the eventual game winner on assist from Joel Konteh. The defense was the standout part of the Falcon’s play most of the match. Gary Dunne, Sam Marchi, Fares Awad and Latrell Smith were able to hold the Crowder offense out of the box most of the match. Lewis Brass recorded the shutout and made some big plays off corner kicks and crosses dominating the air in the penalty box in the second half.
