Falcons Topple Archers in Three Sets

The East Central College Volleyball Falcons, 6-2, won a big MCCAC and Region 16 DII match at home in straight sets over the St. Louis Community College Archers by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-21. Things were not going well for the Falcons who found themselves trailing early in the first set 8-2. Trying to claw their way back, ECC had an even bigger deficit to overcome later as the were down 17-7 in the first set. A resilient comeback was led by Alyce Koch serving for five straight points including an ace. Finally, the Falcons took a 24-23 lead and then Leanata Leakehe slammed the door shut with a thunderous kill.

The Falcons didn’t do themselves an favors in the next two sets starting down by at least 4 points early in each set. The team rallied behind some big defensive plays by Maranntha Holliman and Trinity Clark. As the Falcons started gaining the edge in of the last two sets they forced the Archers into making a number errors.
