East Central College Soccer (6-5-3) ended the regular season with a victory over Central Methodist University JV by a score of 2-1 in Fayette, MO. A late start had the Falcons traveling across the state to take on the Eagles and ECC didn’t disappoint the faithful following of fans that also made the trip. East Central College opened up the scoring in the 18th minute as Arman Kovac hit a left footed, free kick from about 22 yards out that split through the wall and past the CMU goalkeeper.
The first half had the Falcons with the majority of possession and scoring chances. Up 1-0, Arman Kovac broke into the defense again and let a shot go off the inside of the post and it rebounded back into the goalmouth and off the back foot of the goalkeeper. A close scoring opportunity had the Falcons hunting for more goals.
Elhadji Diane got a start for the Falcons and put three shots towards goal. It was later in the second half during the 55th minute when Arman Kovac struck again with a quick transition goal with a slot pass from Leo Sowa to put ECC up 2-0. The Falcon defense held strong throughout the match, but broke down by letting CMU put a crossing pass into the box for a tuck-in goal in the 70thminute.
The win put ECC over the .500 mark again on the season and assured the team will be at least the .500 mark for the season, but the Falcons are looking for more in the post season. The winner of the Crowder College vs. St. Louis Community College game will most likely determine the destination for the first round of the NJCAA Region Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2:00PM.
