A successful season came to an end for the ECC Falcons (20-14) as they finished NJCAA Region 16 runner-ups in the post season tournament. East Central College started the day on the right note in the semifinal as they knocked off the Cottey College Comets in three straight sets to reach their 20th victory of the year. ECC downed the Comets by scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-17. A focused East Central team headed into the final hoping to upset the #1 seeded MCC-Longview Lakers. The Falcons jumped out into the lead early in the first set knowing that only flawless play would bring home a winner. The Falcons battled to 23-19 lead in the first set, but errors proved costly and allowed the Lakers to inch their way back in the set to eventually overcome the Falcons 25-23. Coach Lisa Mathes-Peters was proud of her team’s effort in the first set, “the team came out with intensity and knew an early lead was one way to gain the mental edge over Longview.” The Falcons struggled to gain a consistent offense in the last two sets and fell by scores of 23-25, 20-25, and 16-25.
