The ECC Men’s Soccer Falcons (8-5-1) knocked off the NJCAA #18 St. Charles Community College Cougars 2-1 at home on Wednesday, October 4 for the annual ‘Flank the Field’ game. A tightly contested match had ECC playing well from start to finish. The first goal of the match was scored on a Ross Watson goal as he placed a shot past the Cougar goalkeeper. Watson was fed on the shot by a great left flank run by Dujon Brown as he beat two defenders and cut the ball into the box a provided the fireworks for ECC in the sixth minute of the match.
The Falcons controlled possession with decent shape and defensive play. The Falcons pressed on and made more runs into the SCC box and drew a penalty kick. The kick was saved and turned the momentum the way of the Cougars. There were moments of let down on the defensive side by ECC and St. Charles scored with about 20 minutes left in the match. A quick response to the opposition’s goal came in the 76th minute about 4 minutes later when Ethan Lush netted the game winner as he made a diagonal run in the box a slammed the door shut on the match,.
Jay Elliot had a good game in the nets for the Falcons as did Damian Kunc and Michael Holliday starting in the center back positions.
