The ECC Women’s Soccer Team (3-9) were able to finish off the Parkland College Cobras with a 1-0 victory last night in Champaign, IL. The Falcons have been improving their play over the last few games and lost a close match to State Fair last weekend 1-0. They have now rebounded with a flawless defensive performance in the shutout victory over Parkland.

As the Falcons improve their play on the pitch, they are getting more consistent play from their defense led by their goalkeeper Gabby Mattli who recorded her second shutout on the season. A 60th minute penalty kick for a handball in the box was saved by Mattli keeping the Falcons in the game to set up some waning minute heroics.  Destiny Boehm, Sami Starling and Kayleigh Willman have been tightening up their defensive game in front of Mattli making it possible for the team to collect some much needed “W’s” in the win column during this stretch towards the end of the regular season.

The lone goal, which proved to be the game winner, came on a breakaway from Rebekah Lewis on an assist by Abby Layton in the 84th minute. As the Falcons head into their last regular season games, the team’s improved performance is making it easier for the Falcons to find ways to win!
