A rain soaked game played on turf at Rockhurst University may have been the ideal setting for the Falcons. ECC (4-3-2) was able to climb above the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 3-1 win over the Rockhurst University JV squad.
The game was delayed for an hour at half time due to lightning in the area. Before the break, the Falcons were moving the ball better than they had all season. Stephen Akot notched his sixth goal of the season with nice pass from Arman Kovac to get the scoring started in the 18th minute. Kovac came back with a goal of his own on a pass from Gabriel Pires in the 22nd minute to make it 2-0. Then lightning was spotted and the team headed to the bus to ride out the storm.
After resuming the game in the second half, ECC had one falter as the Hawks played a lofting cross into the box and connected with a Rockhurst player’s head for a goal. Sluggish after coming off the bus, the Falcons needed to pick up the tempo. Then the Falcons got back to business as Elhadji Diane received a pass from Blake Little with his back to goal. Diane turned with the defender grabbing his shirt and then made some lightning of his own as he struck a cannon of a shot from 18 yards out in a play-on situation to make the score 3-1 and seal the victory.
