ECC Softball (6-2) pulled off a double header sweep over the St. Charles Community College Cougars by scores of 12-4 and 5-3. It was a cold and windy day, but the Falcons’ bats remained hot the entire day against the Cougars.
The Falcons pounced on the Cougars early as Meredith Blakemore registered a two RBI double and Ryleigh Long sent a home run shot over the centerfield fence for another two runs.
After two innings the Falcons were up 7-1 and then the Cougars started a comeback. Heading into the 6th inning ECC was leading 7-4 and then the floodgates opened. Maggie Stubenrauch singled driving in three runs. Then Long added another RBI of her own. The Falcons scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to run rule the Cougars 12-4.
Abrea Simmons earned the win for the Falcons striking out seven batters.
The second game was led off by a Genevieve Beacom two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Then in the next inning Meredith Blakemore extended the lead to 3-0 with an RBI double.
Loren Thurmon went two for three in the game with quality at bats. It was couple of plays at the plate and errors by St. Charles that led to runs as the Falcons edged out the Cougars 5-3 in the seven inning contest.
Defensively, the Falcons played solid error free softball behind the pitching of Addyson Steele. Steele had a spectacular game from the circle only allowing seven hits and three runs. She struck on nine batters in the contest for her college career high total.
