Jay Mehrhoff, Ed. D. Biography
Jay Mehrhoff has served East Central College in the athletic department and physical education department for 28 years. He first served as the head men’s soccer coach from 1997-2000, turning the program into a nationally ranked power. Opportunities opened up quickly as he was named a full- time physical education instructor in 2000 and soon thereafter took over as the college’s athletic director in 2003.
Since 2003, the East Central College athletic department has blossomed by adding new sports and improving facilities as well as winning championships and making NJCAA national tournament appearances with only having limited teams on campus. Accomplishments:
• Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year JC/CC 2010-11 & 2014-15
• As President, rebranded Midwest Community College Athletic Conference to Missouri Community College Athletic Conference and added four new institutions. Developed new logo with graphic design firm.
• Raised funds and directed floor gym floor redesign project 2012
• Raised funds and designed the East Central College Interactive Touch Screen Athletic Hall of Fame 2011
• Installed a four-sided trophy case on the ECC campus
• Directed facility renovation project -expansion of college fitness center from 800 sq. ft. to a 2800 sq. ft. facility
• Worked on committee to develop new logo for athletic department
• Developed two new websites for athletic department
• Acquired new scoreboards through donations
• Raised coaches’ salaries consistently over fifteen-year period 2010-25
• Renovated baseball field through sponsorship fundraising 2021

Prior to starting a career in intercollegiate athletics, Jay grew up in suburban St. Louis where he was a 1st Team All-State, 2nd Team All-Metro and Honorable Mention All-Midwest soccer player at Lindbergh High School. Jay originally accepted a scholarship to play NCAA Division I soccer at the University of Memphis but transferred to the University of Missouri-St. Louis to finish his playing career at the NCAA Division II level and graduate with bachelor’s degree in physical education. Mehrhoff then went on to the University of Missouri-Columbia to complete his master’s degree in Sport Management, where he was named runner-up as graduate instructor of the year in the Exercise Science Department. During this time, he coached the women’s club soccer team as well as serving as an intern in marketing for the University of Missouri Athletic Department, promoting the newly formed women’s soccer team as well as men’s basketball.
After completing a Doctor of Education in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy, Jay was promoted in faculty rank to Associate Professor at East Central College. Since this period Jay has served in the role as athletic director to improve the academic and athletic success of student athletes at East Central College.
Jay has been married to his wife Kate for 24 years and has two children: Matthew, age 21 and Leah, age 19. Matthew, a junior, plays football at William Penn University and Leah, a freshman, attends the University of Alabama and is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
