The ECC Softball Falcons (16-4) were on a mission as they took down the Missouri State University- West Plains Grizzlies 5-3 in the first game and almost made a comeback in the second game, but fell short 6-4.
A Missouri Community College Athletic Conference match-up had the Falcons in control the entire first game with ECC jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning and holding on for a 5-3 win. Loren Thurmon opened up the scoring in the first inning with a two-run double. Meredith Blakemore went 2 for 3 at the plate.
Abrea Simmons earned the win for the Falcons pitching six innings and striking out six batters. Megan Hawkins came into the game in relief collecting the save for ECC.
The second game was paced by Ryleigh Long’s bat as she hit a solo homer and drove in a total of four runs. Her three hits on the day were a team high. The Falcons were in control of their own destiny forcing an 7th inning after a 2-run rally in the 6th to tie the game 4-4.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Genevieve Beacom hit a lead-off towering shot to the left field fence and the Grizzly outfield misplayed the ball. This lead to a heads up double for Beacom, which turned into no out runner on third base. Then Meredith Blakemore smashed a ball off the pitcher and into an out. Then an attempt to bunt Beacom in was foiled and eventually the Falcons came up scoreless. The game ended 6-4 as the Grizzlies tacked on two runs in the top of the 8th inning.
