The East Central College Falcons (4-6-3) concluded the regular season at home with a 1-1 draw against the St. Louis Community College Archers. The first half was a back-and-forth contest. The Archers struck paydirt first with a goal in the 18th minute of the match. A battle ensued on the pitch as the Falcons looked to get back into the game. As the first half was winding down, ECC got that opportunity when Dujon Brown received a pass from Tyler Finder in a give-and-go fashion and sprung Finder. Finder found himself at the top of the penalty box and placed a nice left-footed shot into the upper left corner of the net. It was a strike of brilliance from the sophomore forward, which ended up being the lone goal for the Falcons.
ECC and STLCC kept up the frenetic pace of the game in the second half. Both defenses stood firm and no more goals were scored. Typically, in a junior college men’s soccer match, the last 25 minutes get chippy, but the Falcons held their composure. A couple opportunities on net were taken by both teams. Ignacio “Iggy” Padilla stood his ground in goal during the second half behind the great defensive play from Koen Gemeri, Brady Blum, Matt Harp, Jules Denommee and Michael Holliday. The Falcons’ defense has been a bright spot for the team down the stretch run of the regular season.
East Central College will now head to St. Louis Community College in Florissant Valley on Saturday, October 26 at 2:00 PM for the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Region 16 DII Men’s Soccer Tournament. The winner will take on St. Charles Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 PM in Cottleville, MO for the semifinal match of the tournament.
