The ECC Baseball Falcons (12-16) were able to take the bite out of the Spoon River CC Snappers with a double header sweep at home. ECC won the first game in convincing fashion 14-3, but the second game on the slate was a little crazy as the Falcons found themselves trailing big on two separate occasions to eventually win 12-11 on a walk-off.
The winds were howling and in came Seth “The Weatherman” Shannon to broadcast the forecast of cloudy, windy and a flurry of ECC hits leading his team to two wins. In the first game, Shannon harnessed the winds and his bat power to lead all hitters going three for three with five RBI. Knocking home a grand slam in the third inning, Shannon all but shattered the shells of the Snappers.
Luciano Terilli, Logan Baker and Tyson Dent all had multiple hits in the game for the Falcons, putting runners in scoring position. Dent knocked the ball out of the park for a solo homer and one of his two hits on the day.
ECC used a number of pitchers in the mid-week affair, with Matt Hallman starting, and Shane Kearby eventually gaining the victory. Sam Oermann and Trey Orman entered the game in relief to shut down any type of Spoon River comeback.
The second game found ECC trailing 5-0 after the first two innings. Ethan Lindemann helped ECC chip away at the lead with an RBI in the third inning and then the Falcons took off hitting in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-5 lead.
Some of the ECC relief pitchers came in and started walking Spoon River batters and it looked like hope for a win was lost with ECC trailing 11-7 going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Walks, hit batters, wild pitches and hits came for the Falcons in the bottom of the seventh and they reeled in the Snappers at 11-10. Then Shannon hit a two RBI single with bases loaded to win the game 12-11 in walk-off fashion for the Falcons.
In the RBI department, Grant Beck led the team in the second game collecting 3, Ethan Lindemann 2, Patrick Dale 2 , and Seth Shannon 2.
