East Central College sophomore volleyball player, Kari Blankenship, was awarded the National Alliance of Two Year College Administrators Scholar Athlete Honorable Mention Award for the 2008-09 academic year. She will be presented with a certificate from NATYCAA. The NATYCAA Scholar Athlete Award was started in 1992 and is sponsored by Summit America Insurance Services. The overall award is given to the male and female student athlete who best demonstrates outstanding accomplishment and leadership in academics, athletics, and citizenship. This year a list of thirty honorable mention students were included in the awards presentation. The honorable mention list acknowledges outstanding men and women for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field of athletics.
Kari Blankenship (Owensville High School) was a member of the 2008 East Central College Women’s Volleyball Team who won the Region XVI DII Volleyball Championship and earned a trip to the NJCAA National Championship in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Kari was a NJCAA Region XVI All-Region and MCCAC All- Conference Honorable Mention selection for her performance on the volleyball court. Along with her athletic honors, Kari was named East Central College Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2008-2009, a finalist for the East Central College Student of the Year and will be named an NJCAA Academic All-American later this summer. Kari will continue her academic and athletic career next year at Maryville University where she will be majoring in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History. She plans on pursuing a master’s degree in Sport Management to further education after completing her undergraduate degree in education.
