Falcons End Successful Season in NJCAA Tournament

Erica LaBoube ServingErica LaBoube ServingEnding the season in the NJCAA National Tournament, the Falcons (34-12) had a tremendous effort fall short against Hagerstown College, MD in five games: 27-25,25-13,14-25,18-25,11-15. The Falcons were in top form during the first two games of the match as Stephanie Heim, Erica LaBoube, Jamie Murray and Alyssa Speckhals led the team offensively. The Hagerstown Hawks were desparate to keep their season alive and mounted a comeback.

After dusting of the butterflies and facing an early deficit at the hands of Parkland College, the Falcons made a couple of runs to claw their way back in each game. Eventually, the Falcons fell in three games by scores of 17-25, 12-25, 17-25.

FALCONS RECEIVE POST SEASON HONORS

Nickardo BlakeNickardo BlakeThe Falcons finished the season with a 17-5-1 record and were rewarded with post season honors for a wide array of players. Coach Benji Grimes was named MCCAC Coach of the Year for 2008. Nickardo Blake received the highest honors being named 1st Team All-Region XVI and 1st Team All-Conference as well as being a candidate for NJCAA All-American. Lionel Brown, who recorded a school record 12 shutouts this season, was a 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-Conference selection.
